Realizing the ultimate riding dream means conquering the High Himalaya motorbike circuit- a legendary route boasting the world's highest motorable passes and unparalleled views. A dedicated 14-day journey is the perfect length to complete the full Manali-Leh traverse. To prioritize your safety and comfort, this itinerary starts in Manali, ensuring a better, more gradual acclimatization process. Dive into your detailed 14-day plan and the essential tips required for this epic motorbike adventure.

Itinerary

  • Himalaya Motorcycle Tour
Arrive in New Delhi, check into hotel and rest. Use this day for last-minute checks on your gear and permits.
Take your flight from New Delhi to Bhuntar Airport near Manali. Reach your hotel at Manali the "Valley of the Gods" nestled in the majestic Himalayas,
This day is your buffer. Reach the bustling town of Manali. Enjoy vibrant atmosphere,
Cross the 9 km Atal Tunnel (or Rohtang Pass, if open and you have a permit). Ride through the lush green Lahaul Valley. Jispa offers beautiful accommodation.
The most scenic highway day. Cross Baralacha La Pass. Sarchu is a very high-altitude camp (4,290m), so be prepared for a very cold night.
Start riding the legendary Manali-Leh Highway. Cross Polo Kongka La and visit Tso Kar Lake (another stunning high-altitude lake) for a night halt.
A full day's ride through the Changthang region. Tso Moriri (Karzok village) is a beautiful, peaceful lake, less commercialized than Pangong.
Crucial for AMS prevention. Rest and only do a short local ride. Visit Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, and the Leh market.
Conquer Khardung La Pass (one of the world's highest motorable roads). Enjoy the stunning descent into Nubra Valley. See the Diskit Monastery.
Ride to Turtuk Village, the last village before the Line of Control (LoC). Return to Hunder/Diskit. Enjoy the double-hump Bactrian camel safari in the sand dunes.
Take the adventurous Shyok River Route (Agham-Shyok Road). The road can be unpredictable (water crossings, dirt track) but saves a day of riding back to Leh. Pangong lake is ethereal, ever-changing blue waters, a high-altitude saltwater lake famous for shifting between vibrant shades like turquoise, sapphire, and indigo as the sun moves.
Wake up to the sunrise over the lake. Head back to Leh, conquering the formidable Chang La Pass (5,360m / 17,590 ft).
Your incredible motorbike journey ends here. Catch a flight to New Delhi.
Stay in hotel in New Delhi. Now you can continue your onward journey.

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS)

Acclimatization is Non-Negotiable: The itinerary is structured for gradual ascent, but Day 8 in Leh is mandatory for rest. Do not try to rush it.
Symptoms: Headaches, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. If symptoms worsen, descend immediately.
Medication: Diamox (Acetazolamide) as a preventive measure.
Hydration: Drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol and smoking at high altitude stays.
